IN GUARDIA PARADE :: January to December 2009 The IN GUARDIA PARADE is a historical re-enactment that portrays an authentic historical event set in the late 16th – early 17th century. The re-enactment depicts the inspection of the fort and its garrison by the Grand Bailiff of the Order of the Knights of St. John who was in charge of military affairs. During the re-enactment the fort's garrison (some 70 characters in all) is dressed in its best uniforms to demonstrate its military prowess. The show starts at 11:00hrs and lasts some 40 minutes. DISCOVER ROCK CLIMBING :: April to October 2009 For all those waiting to try or wanting to do some more rock climbing there is a new event just for you! Malta Activities are going to take their Discover Rock Climbing sessions to Gozo for a day. There will be two sessions , one at 9am and one at 2pm . The half day sessions will allow you to sample some of the fantastic climbing available whilst also getting the opportunity to discover Gozo! This event will take place on the last Sunday of the month. SUNSET SUNDAYS :: June to September 2009 The most attended and highly anticipated weekly summer club night on the Maltese isles returns! As from the 7th of June 2008, the eight season of Sunset Sundays will be launched within the exclusive open-air surroundings of Numero Uno in Ta’ Qali – which is now officially rated as one of the best venues on the planet by the notorious DJ mag. Sunset Sundays 2009 will once again be the yardstick by which all Maltese clubbing will be judged, providing eager clubbers with no less than 15 consecutive Sunday nights which not only promise to be superior and better than ever, but will also promise to deliver that special positive vibe and atmosphere that has become the trademark associated with the Sunset Sundays name since its initiation in 2002. MALTA ARTS FESTIVAL :: July 2009 From an island whose history is a manifestation of cultures that converge, comes a festival which brings hundreds of artists to its performance platform. ISLE OF MTV :: July 2009 The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Metro Station and Esmée Denters will perform at the Isle of MTV music event in Malta on 8 July. The artists will play in a free live concert in the spectacular Il-Fosos Square in Floriana in front of 50,000 people. MALTA INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL :: July 2009 The Malta Jazz Festival will present world class jazz musicians on the 16th, 17th, and 18th July in the magnificent setting of Ta' Liesse, Malta's Grand Harbour, Valletta. Experience a magical night with the Brad Mehldau Trio and Maraca on July 16th, the Oliver Degabriele Trio, the Kurt Rosenwinkel Band and Eliane Elias on July 17th, and the Dominic Galea Trio, the John Scofield Piety Street Band and Miguel Zenon Quartet on July 18th. All performances start at 8pm. The jazz festival will expose the audience to the big names in contemporary jazz whilst presenting an eclectic programme to suit all tastes: from danceable salsa to the lulling sway of bossa nova, from the introspective dialogues of the piano trio to the infectious grooves of gospel, blues and r&b. All the artists featuring in this year's festival have one thing in common - a strong jazz element. THE FARSONS GREAT BEER FESTIVAL :: July 2009 This year’s edition of The Farsons Great Beer Festival will once again bring great entertainment to thousands of people at Ta’ Qali Park from Friday 24th July to Sunday 2nd August 2009. GOZO MUSIC FESTIVAL :: August 2009 Gozo's 'most wanted' festival is back for its 8th Edition! Yes, the countdown has started for this year's Gozo Music Festival. Following on the success of last year`s edition and a growing reputation, this year's event will be headlined by the biggest line-up ever to by presented on the island of Gozo and will surely be one of the top events of the year. The Gozo Music Festival will take place on Saturday 22nd August 2009. it will be a memorable night full of music, bringing the best selection from the past and the present, at the Gozitano Complex (on the way to Victoria). MALTA INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW :: September 2009 A large variety of airplanes, both military and civilian, will be on display at the Airport and performing in the skies over St. Paul's Bay on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th September in this year's edition of the Malta International Air Show. Static Display will take place at the Airport Park 4 (10am-4.00pm) Flying Display will be held at St Paul's Bay (2.00pm-4.30pm) NOTTE BIANCA :: October 2009 The Malta Council for Culture & the Arts will once again be organising a jam-packed programme for Notte Bianca, which will be held in Valletta on the night of October 3rd and 4th. The event, which has drawn thousands of people to Valletta over the past few years, consists of a rich mix of history, culture and entertainment, with activities being held right across the capital city. |
